How does the saying go?

Horses sweat, gentlemen perspire, and ladies... glow?

Yeah, I'm glowing like a bloomin' firefly tonight!!! And not for the good reasons! lol

I guess that wasn't exactly substantial. But I'd like to take this opportunity to lament that the Brits get all the good TV shows. I mean, there are some quality shows here in America, don't get me wrong -- I absolutely love Lost (although am NOT happy that it doesn't come back until January! *sob*) and there are a few other decent ones. But really, the Brits have given us Monty Python's Flying Circus, Coupling, The Office, the Planet Earth series, and most importantly Doctor Who! A British friend of mine got me curious enough that when I stumbled onto an episode on PBS about a month ago, I bothered to watch it all -- and it's bloody brilliant! I know, many people poo poo science fiction, but Doctor Who is so much about character development and social commentary... well, as previously stated it's absolutely brilliant. The writing, the acting, the direction, everything. It actually might surpass Lost as my favourite just because of that silly hiatus.

Wow, Lost is on hiatus 'til January???  I don't watch the show, but I still think it's kinda ridiculous!  The only British show I've watched before is Faulty Towers.  You ever seen that?  John Cleese was in it and he was good!  Only bad thing is there were only 12 episodes of that whole show!  What a ripoff!  I haven't seen the Monty Python show but I have seen the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  That was funny! I love British humor. Benny Hill was hilarious.  Smiley

OMG I love that show!
My dad had some old tapes (he recorded himself) and I pretty much grew up on them.
Now I'm going to have the theme song stuck in my head all day. LOL

Hahaha I don't know what I would call it myself, but it sure is beyond a "glow" at this point.
It's so hot and humid here.... bad combination.

Re: Brit Shows
Coupling is one of my favorite TV shows of all time! That show is pure genius as far as I'm concerned. LOL About a month ago I switched cable companies so now I have the BBC channel and I get my Coupling fix. Smiley

British tv is really great sometimes. I've heard good things about Dr. Who, but I can't bring myself to watch it because I tried to watch the older series as a child, and the theme song and some of the special effects creeped me out a fair bit for some reason.

Personally, I think science fiction is vastly underrated, and terribly misunderstood, myself. Lost is actually science fiction, but don't tell anyone that, because they'll stop watching.

In some ways, British tv can be a lot better than American tv because they don't have the same idiot executives looking to dumb down their shows for "the common man", and then confusing "the common man" with an idiot. "I hear what you're saying, but...can we fit in a hot girl with a bikini?", or "you know, that's compelling writing, and innovative storytelling, but can we dumb it down a bit and fit it into one episode so people don't have to follow a mytharc?"

I get a lot of Brit coms through a friend of mine. He'll send me random episodes of things and not tell me what the heck they are, but two things are usually universally true: 1. the production values are usually uhh...I don't want to say "poor" but...yeah, and 2. the writing is usually phenomenal and innovative.

I'd like to add to your list, too. Some of my favorite British shows are: The Prisoner (1967 tripped out spy show), A Bit of Frye and Laurie, Jeeves and Wooster, Fawlty Towers (as someone pointed out), Blackadder, MI6, and Extras.

Oh so TRUE about American TV. Ah, unfortunately I don't get cable... what little British TV I can get is from PBS. I have heard wonderful things about Fawlty Towers and Blackadder though! Is there a way to watch them online?
