Find out how Guiding Light played a part in a real-life true crime case, explored via an episode of Undisclosed featuring Days of our Lives' Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami Brady).

A majority of daytime fans view soap operas as life changing, but vintage scenes from Guiding Light actually did change somebody's life -- dramatically.

The popular true crime podcast Undisclosed recently aired an episode featuring Days of our Lives' Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady). And the hour-long episode delves into a case that -- much even to Sweeney's surprise -- had a super soapy twist.

Starting at about the twenty-one-minute mark, the episode briefly veers into the robbery/murder case of State vs. Kenneth Kagonyera, and it's revealed that scenes from the now-defunct CBS soap opera Guiding Light were recorded over a security video that played a part in a wrongful conviction. And that wasn't all. Investigators were able to use the specific scenes to ascertain more details about the crime's timeline. [Editor's Note: The soap opera is initially wrongfully referenced as DAYS in the clip]

"You've got to watch your soaps, okay!" Sweeney jokes upon hearing the bizarre soap opera connection, adding, "I mean, what are the odds of that [happening]?... Our genre helped this case."

In addition to the Guiding Light connection, Sweeney was chosen to guest star on the podcast due to her latest Hallmark movie franchise titled The Chronicle Mysteries. As Soap Central previously reported, the series of films will center around Roberta "Robbie" McPherson (Sweeney), a novelist and podcaster who is researching the cold case of Gina DeSavio.
