October ended on a very sad note for General Hospital star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). The daytime legend shared that he lost his own legend: his father, Humberto Morales.
Benard took to Instagram over the weekend with the sad news, posting a photo and video album of special moments he shared with his pop.
"My dad was one of a kind -- no one like him. Those who knew him know what I'm talking about," the actor wrote of the man he calls his hero. "When I was a little boy I wanted to be him. Nobody was more proud of me than my father."
As Benard shares, Humberto was a huge fan of General Hospital (he was not, however, a fan of the coupling of Carly [Laura Wright] and Jason [Steve Burton]!), and he became part of the soap's family via association. So much so, Benard shares, that he has been overwhelmed with messages of support from GH fans.
"I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming response," the actor tweeted along with the joke, "I can tell you my dad would've said to me, 'I told you I'm a bigger star than you.'"
First of all I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming response. I can I can tell you my dad would've said to me, "I told you I'm a bigger star than you."

Speaking of GH fans, Benard -- who has long struggled with bipolar disorder -- assured his followers that while he has a heavy heart over the death of his father, he is fortunately not suffering from anxiety over the loss at this time.
