Daytime Emmy Awards 2008
  • It has been a month now since the nominations for the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced and I wanted to weigh in with my opinion. Why am I waiting this long to do it? Well, I have been busy and haven't really had time to sit and write in my blog, but let's move on. I was just as shocked and disappointed as anyone else that my favorites, who I thought deserved a nomination were passed over for those who really didn't deserve an acting nomination. The reason why they didn't deserve was because they are bad actors, because they're not. They just didn't have any good scenes that were worthy of a nomination. We have Tammin Sursok and Vail Bloom from The Young and the Restless who are both nominated in the Younger Actress category. Why? They're scenes mostly consisted of Colleen whining about something for the umpteenth time, and Heather finding out Paul was her father in ONE dramatic scene. Could someone please tell my why these two were worthy of a nomination instead of talented younger actresses like One Life's Kristen Alderson, Brittany Underwood, Portia Reiners, or General Hospital's Julie Marie Berman, Kirsten Storms, or Days' Rachel Melvin, Shelley Hennig? These are actresses that are deserving of a nomination because they had lots of meaty material over the past year, but yet were shut out for ones who didn't have anything to do besides stand around and look pretty. I am also trying to wrap my mind around why such powerhouse talent like Days' Deidre Hall, B&B's Susan Flannery, Katherine Kelly Lang, or GH's Laura Wright, Kelly Monaco, Leslie Charleson were overlooked for a Lead Actress Emmy, while Y&R's Jeanne Cooper, and GL's Nicole Forester were nominated for once again, doing nothing. Just like in the Lead Actor category, we have nominees who did nothing last year, while the ones who had meaty material were overlooked. It seems that this year's trend is to nominate actors/actresses who have done nothing but stand around with their hands in their pockets, so maybe for next year, the ones who were deserving of a nomination this year should just stand around and do nothing but have their hands in their pockets and look pretty, and maybe, just maybe, they will secure a nomination. In my honest opinion, the Emmy voting process needs to be revamped once again. How about maybe instead of letting their peers judge their acting ability for a nomination, they should of a panel of fans who sit and watch these shows on a daily basis five days a week judge This way, the nominations will be evenly split among the networks, and those deserving will actually get nominated.. It just might turn out to be a fair process
