Uhh, just stuff... :)

Ahhh, can you smell the roses?  They smell reeeeally good! Smiley

I've been reading a lot lately, I just finished Simple Genius by David Baldacci.  I really like David Baldacci's books.  Now I am reading a book by Ann Rule and another one by Jeffrey A. Wands, different subjects but interesting.

I recently had to get a crown on one of my teeth.  It didn't thrill me!  Even with dental insurance they are not cheap and I prefer my own teeth, thank you. Smiley  It had a cracked filling in it that the dentist said couldn't be re-filled.  I haven't needed any dental work for years, I am nearly crazy fanatical in taking care of my teeth--I hate dental work!

We've been doing some small landscaping projects around here.  It dawned on me that we've lived here almost 10 years and there are a lot of things that I kept thinking we would get to that we haven't.  When you move onto on an acre of weeds and alfalfa (and you're not rich!) it takes a while to get to everything.  Since we built the house we've poured concrete, also put in some asphalt, planted lawn, trees, put in flower beds, my husband fenced the whole peoperty and built a decent sized shed/sm. garage, he just put a small retaining wall up.  Last weekend I bought a bunch of flowers, petunias etc., and got all those planted.  The weather here hasn't been all that great, we had a really nice week a couple weeks ago but when it's windy and cloudy it's not as much fun to be out puttering.

We've been taking Skittles to dog obedience classes, he is doing pretty good.  He's calmed down quite a bit since we got him, we call him "The Brown Fury" as a joke because he's so busy.

We are getting a new DVR on Saturday. We have two right now that are a few years old and I have to fight them all the time.  They are always doing things that they are not supposed to be doing and not doing the things that they are supposed to be doing!  The new one is one receiver that controls two TV's, I am hoping it will be problem free (or mostly problem free anyway!)

My novels
In answer to a query from the ATWT Carly/Jack/Katie board, my first novel is Shadow In the Sun, pts. 1 & 2, published by Xlibris. Both books are available from any bookseller and directly from Xlibris. My pseudonym is Alex Hughes-Walton. They are the first volume of a 20 volume series ranging from 1816 to the present day. In these works of historical fiction, I follow a fictional aristocratic British family, their servants and friends from one generation to another. Let me know what you think! Thanks for your interest, funnelcake.

Arrgh. I hate it when authors die before they can finish a series...
So, when I was in college a friend of mine practically forced me to start reading these "Wheel of Time" fantasy books. They're not bad. They're not awesome, but if you're into that stuff, they're certainly not horrible. What she didn't tell me was that there were, I think 9 of them at the time...maybe 10. Big books. Big long books that look like war and peace beside Harry Potter. But, I read them...all of them. Then when I finished them, I happened to notice that my friend also forgot to tell  me they didn't end, and that I'd have to wait another two years for the next one...and the next one, despite being 600-something pages, didn't even get to the part of the story that I liked.

And then I just dropped the books, fully intending to finish them one day when they were all written, and "the ending had better be worth it," I thought.

Well, then I go online today and find out the author has died...so in all likelihood, now it will never have an ending. thousands of pages read...wasted. Grrr.

Darn you Robert Jordan for dying and not finishing those books! *shakes fist*

What books do you recommend?

I love to read.  It's one of my favorite things to do.  And I like all different genres.  Weither it be thrillers by such authors as Dean Koontz, Mary Higgins Clark and Anne Rice, action by the likes of John Grisham, Robert Ludlum and Dan Brown, fantasy such by Guy Gavial Kay, J.K. Rowling, and J.R.R. Tolkien, romantic thrillers by Nora Roberts and her alias J.D. Robb or chick-lit by Sophie Kinsella.

I would love to hear about some of your favorite books because I've read mine over and over and over.  Not that I mind doing that, I like reading a book more than once, I always feel like I find out something new.  But I want something new and interesting to read!  So please tell me your favorites and I'll tell you mine!

Some of my favorite books are:

By J.K. Rowling:

Harry Potter Series.... My screen name is Padfoot, need I say more?

By Sopie Kinsella:

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Can You Keep a Secret

Undomestic Godess

Anne Rice:

Interview with a Vampire Series (my cat's name is Armand)

The Witching Hour (This is a series as well, but I've only read this first one)

Dan Brown:

Angels & Demons

DaVinci Code

Robert Ludlum:

Bourne Identity Series

Ambler Warning

Bookcrossing.co...
Hello,
Pressed for time again today but stopping by to ask if anyone has ever caught or released a book into the wild?

Go to http://www.bookcrossing.com to see what it's about.

I registered one book but I'm not ready to release it yet.  It looks like most books don't get any follow-up but it will be fun to participate anyway.

I actually don't read that much because it just sucks up too much time.  But recently I have been reading a series of books set in ancient Egypt because that is one of my favorite settings for a story.  I also like to read travelogues and accurate historical fiction.  And I am a fan of Anne McCaffrey's dragon books (not so much her other stuff, though.)

Hope everyone is staying cool because there are heat warnings all over the country today, I think.
