First Real Salem Experience
So I figure that I better practice what I preach and try to introduce Days to one of my friends.  So, I talked my husband, Nick, into watching Friday's (April 25th) episode with me.  During the episode, John and Nicole went on their "date", Max and Stephanie tried to have sex, and Roman and Bo helped rescuse Bo, Hope, Steve, and Kayla from the Vitali compound.  Here are some of this highlights:.

Nick: (Seeing that Max is waiting tables at the Brady Pub) Didn’t he used to own a garage or something?

Me: Yeah, but he invested a bunch of money in a bogus business and got taken.

Nick: So, he’s a waitress now?

Nick (during a commercial break): Does anyone ever have a dog on this show?

Me: No, I don’t think anyone would have time for a dog.

Nick: That Stefano (pronounced: ste –FAHH - no) guys does. He’s always home. I never see him outside of his house. Plus, he’s usually kinda cranky and could use some companionship.

Nick: That new John reminds me of Jim Carrey when he turn into Hank from “Me, Myself, and Irene” (warning, there is some adult language in the link, but the comparison is unmistakable!).

Nick: (watching Marlena confront Nicole about the date with John): ohhh….she’s not a good actress is she?

Me:  No, actually she's supposed to sound that ditzy.  Her character is kinda a gold digger.

Nick's Favorite line:

Not too surprising, Nick found John to be the most enjoyable character.  Nick's favorite line was when John told Nicole, “That would be like trying to convince me that you’re a virgin."

Hope your friends are enjoying Days!  Let me know how it is going!

Cheers,
Laurisa

Sad family news

Yesterday my dad's cousin's husband Max died.  I have talked about him a couple times before.  For the past 2 years, he had been battling cancer of the kidneys, spleen, lungs, pancreas, and lymph nodes.  So it was all over the place so his death was inevitable, but it's still very sad.  I can only imagine the pain his wife Julie must be feeling right now.

Max was 59 years old.  He and Julie had 4 kids and a few grandkids.  Those little grandkids are gonna grow up with no memories of their grandfather.  It's very sad.  Max was a very successful realtor in New Orleans.  Even after he was told his cancer had spread, he still went to work on a regular basis, despite the lousy side effects of the chemo.  That's how strong Max was...he didn't let the cancer get in the way of what he wanted to do.  And just last week, the doctor told him he had 2-4 weeks left to live, and guess what Max did afterwards?  Went to lunch with his friends.  I find that very admirable.

Just a few weeks ago he was on a terrific streak.  He was up making breakfast for everyone.  Isn't it amazing how health can decline over such a short period of time?

So this is all very sad.  I've only met Max a couple times and when we got together, he and I really hit it off.  And we're leaving for New Orleans in a couple weeks.  I was really hoping I'd be able to see him one last time.  I hope we'll still be able to see Julie, my great-aunt Alice and her husband John.  They're all really nice people and it sucks that this happened.

Haven't been around much lately

Hey all.  I haven't been around much lately, and that's because every weeknight from 6 to 9 I've been attending driver's ed classes.  So that's very exciting.  Well, the class is kind of a drag and I can't wit 'till it's over.  I just wanna drive!  This is my last week of driver's ed and hopefully I'll have my permit next week.  I'm probably gonna start out driving in some secluded area like out in the country or an empty parking lot.  And then I'll gradually start driving in tougher places.  After I'm comfortable with the feel of the car, like the texture of the pedals and everything, I'm gonna drive around St. Cloud and eventually go down to the Twin Cities.  Hennepin Ave & University Dr are the two toughest roads in Minneapolis and I'm gonna want to get practice on those roads.  Division St here in St. Cloud is a tough street too.  Division runs through the center of St. Cloud and whenever I'm cruising on Division I feel like I'm surrounded by BAD DRIVERS.  It's horrible!  People are always slamming their brakes and switching lanes without looking over their shoulder first and turning without signaling.  I know there are bad drivers everywhere, but St. Cloud seems to be bombarded with them!  My mom said that Oprah once interviewed a trucker who's driven all over the country and Oprah asked him where he's seen the worst drivers and he said, "Division Street in St. Cloud, Minnesota."  Can't say I'm suprised!

My great-aunt Frannie came up this weekend.  We had a great time.  We played cards with her, worked crossword puzzles, ordered pizza, and we watched Cops with her.  Frannie is a blast...she is real funny too.  Maybe I'll do a whole blog about funny things that have happened with her...there's a lot of funny stories to tell!

Frannie talked to my other great-aunt Alice down in New Orleans.  As I have said before, Alice's daughter Julie's husband Max is dying of cancer.  Max has taken a huge turn for the worse, and the doctors have given him 2-4 weeks to live.  That is just awful!  And we're going down to New Orleans in 4 weeks...we could be down there for a funeral Smiley

On a happier note, Marc Cherry said that the cast and crew of Desperate Housewives will be back to work on February 25th.  YEAH!!!!  The next new episode will be in March or April, and there are 7 episodes left this season.  Here are a couple more spoilers...

Orson and Mike will develop a friendship, despite their dark past.  Also, we will find out the true reason why Orson ran over Mike.  At first, they were gonna make Orson a really bad guy but the cast and crew fell in love with Kyle MacLachlan so they decided to make him not so much a bad guy...they made his mother Gloria take the fall instead.  Oh, and speaking of Kyle MacLachlan, did you hear he and his wife are expecting a baby?  Congrats to the couple!

DH has been renewed for a fifth season as well.  Hallelujah!

New Orleans

How many people here either are kids or have kids?  If you are one of these people, do you have anything planned over Spring Break?  Our plans...going to New Orleans.  I have been to New Orleans twice before Katrina, and in six weeks or so I'm gonna see what it looks like now.  Obviously it will be very different...I am very interested how it has changed.  We will be driving down there...it is about a three-day drive.

We also have some family down in New Orleans.  My great-aunt Alice lives there with her husband John, and my dad's cousin Julie lives there with her husband Max.  None of their houses got destroyed.  Alice and John live in a very nice neighborhood.  Their neighborhood is known for mansions and trees...but most of the trees are gone now which is really sad 'cause those trees are what made the neighborhood really beautiful...their house didn't get damaged at all but a lot of houses in that neighborhood were very badly damaged, so Alice and John lucked out.  Julie and Max's house sustained zero damage, but the street behind them got completely flattened, so they REALLY lucked out.

I really hope we can be able to see them, but there's a chance we might not be able to 'cause they have a lot on their plate right now.  Alice and John are both 83 years old and niether one of them is doing great healthwise.  Alice has arthritis very badly and she hasn't been responding to her normal medications, but luckily her doctor recently prescribed her some new med and that's been working well for her.  So she's getting progressively better and she says that as soon as her doctor says it's OK, she's gonna come up to Minnesota for a visit, which is good 'cause Alice is a lot of fun.  So things have been looking up for Alice...John, on the other hand, is getting progressively worse.  A couple years ago they found a tumor in his voicebox, so he underwent radiation therapy.  The tumor is gone, but he is left with the yucky side effects of radiation, as all of his upper teeth are gone.  Also, his back condition has been really getting to him.  He uses a heating pad and there are some activities he can no longer do, such as golfing, which is a shame 'cause he LOVES to golf.  A nurse comes to their house on nights and weekends but given that John's health is deteriorating, they might have to have a full-time nurse soon.  As bad as Alice and John may have it, Julie and Max have it worse.  Max is in the hospital dying of cancer.  It started in his kidneys and spread to his spleen, lungs, pancreas, and lymph nodes.  He is undergoing chemo every day, and if you're doing chemo every day it can't be good.  He lost 50 pounds since he started chemo and Alice says he looks terrible.  And Julie is not holding up well.  Julie is a sweet, wondeful woman, but she is not a strong woman at all.  Alice has told her that she needs to be strong for Max, but Julie just hasn't been holding up well.  It's awful 'cause these are great people and they don't deserve what they're getting.  It's awful also because Max is only 59, he's a great guy, and given that he lives a thousand miles from me, I never got to know him very well, and I wish I could've been able to get to know him well.  So I definitely hope I will be able to see him one last time when we're down there.

So in addition to going to New Orleans this March, we have also been talking about what we should do this summer.  After all, we are halfway there.  From June 20-27, we will be going to Door County, WI, as we always do during the last week of June.  Also, every August the past few years, we've been going someplace we've never been before.  In 2005 we went to San Francisco, in 2006 we went to Boston, and in 2007 we went to Yellowstone.  We are gonna go somewhere in August...we have decided on two possible places.  Either we're going to Seattle, or we're gonna go to the east coast and drive down the east coast...we'd be in places such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, and the Carolinas.  They both sound like fun trips.

I suppose this was one of my longer blogs, huh?  Well, I should be going.  Got homework to do Smiley

gh - thur april 26

wow... today was pretty pointless but i guess it was a dot i's cross t's kinda episode.  looking forward to tomorrow.

highlight of course was lulu and the 3 stooges... funny how she dumped them for michael and morgan.   it was hilarious when elizabeth stood up and the stooges all tried to take her chair.

i still wonder, is that nancy's really hair pretending to be a wig or an actual wig?  regardless.... great job playing the friend to jax.  i actually like alexis except when she's playing the holier-than-thou witch that she can be.  but love the softer side.

i loved patrick trying to play up to emily and her turning the conversation around to "i know it all".  whatever... this storyline is starting to bore me but still there is just something about it that makes me want to see it play out.  ever see a really really really bad movie but still want to watch until the end to see how the story ends?  yeah... that's how i feel right now.

i've been wondering when luke would remember that he and sonny are actually friends.  amazing.. huh?

it was great to see a room full of bickering quartermaines especially ned.... i miss ned.

carly still bugs me... ummm... don't complain about getting what you want.... geez.  sweet that max wrote her a letter, glad jason got back on time even though it means the wedding goes forward, and hilarious that morgan leaves broccoli in carly's broken shoes.

i almost... and i really mean almost... feel sorry for craig.  he's such a jerk and now he's missing a beautiful (gagging here) moment in his families life.
