Passions @ soapcentral.com
I get the strangest feeling of de ja vu when I watch scenes with Sami, EJ and Nicole. I've seen this play before. I just know it.
There's a strong and incredibly good looking leading man who has very plot-heavy genealogy, but unfortunatley can't seem to do anything without parental consent. Our hero is torn between two women.
One women is a loveable, but lifelong trouble maker. She always has admirable ends, but often employs questionable means to get to those ends. It's a good thing that her family name is so well respected because often times that's the only saving grace she has.
The other woman is a savvy wanna-be aristocrat. She thinks it equally painful to be seen without her man as it is to be seen without her high heels and matching bag. She has a very smal family, but is generaly liked by most of the town because of her charm and wit.
Both women are a little too extreme to win over all of the show's fan base, but most can agree that neither character is a "better person" than the other.
The good news is that the actresses involved in the story lines are great. No matter how circular the dialogue (and let's face it, it's getting horribly repetitive) Alison Sweeney and Arianne Zucker will be charged with keeping viewers attention just like Lindsay Hartley and Liza Huber did.
But the huge drawback is the scope of this story line. Passions waited way to long (as in, the very last episode ever) to end this triangle. By the end of the story line, the leading man was sorta a weenie for going back and forth between two women and the women were equally as unlikeable because their whole history was schemes and lies.
I hope that the Days writers learn that keeping a perpetual triangle going is not good for a soap. Can you imagine if Bo was still trying to decide between Billie and Hope? Me either.
Bottom line: make a choice and go with it. Don't let the characters suffer!
Cheers,
Laurisa
As part of your ever faithful Two Scoops duo, Tony and I are always ready to share our thoughts on our favorite guilty obsession with you. We hope you'll do the same with us! We appreciate all the feedback that we can get!
Oh Passions you have been cancelled again. I remember when I first heard about you and was filled with anger and resentment that someone thought you would be more worthy of airtime than my beloved Another World. But then came those promos with that unsettling brunette teen with an obsessive crush that overshadowed the unhealthiest and most embarrassing of my one-sided teen romances. I just had to check out this crazy underdog whom I would come to know as Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald (among other things). Though I tried to hold out I did eventually betray the memory of the Corys, Hudsons and the rest of Bay City and let my dial rest on NBC during the 2 pm timeslot I was sucked in by the two crazy, obsessive teen girls: Theresa and Kay. I love a good soap opera scheme so I was more drawn to Kay's plotting than Theresa's bumbling (though she certainly caught on later). For me you reached your heights with Deanna Wright as Kay dabbling in the dark arts and the Bennett's house being sucked into hell. Once Kay was recast, watered down and back burnered I was less interested but didn't tune out. Then came baby mayhem with Gwen and Theresa and I was interested but ultimately turned off of all characters involved and hoped desperately for a new direction in the story. It didn't come and I my contempt for JER began to build. There was always a hint that things were about to turn around. Secrets would be revealed and characters and relationships would be changed forever. And to a degree they did. Eve's secrets exposed and the re-emergence of Evian love was quite a treat. And though I loved Beth and was bored by SherSher it was time for Beth to be exposed. But to my surprise the SLs that had room to move forward were dropped and the secrets that were long overdue for exposure were front and centre with no development. Characters rehashed the same lines over and over and I became more and more familiar with the folks in Oakdale on the other channel. Katherine and Martin came to town with promise of new storylines and secrets revealed but instead I was treated to rewrite after rewrite none of them making much sense and then all of them being swept under the rug. Uh why did Martin leave town? And I know soaps are notorious for timeline inconsistencies but KMART really screwed it up like I've never seen before and that was the real beginning of the end for me. I couldn't make any sense of the show, I felt like what happened today would be rewritten tomorrow or next week and neither version would be the least bit entertaining or satisfying. I held out hope for a while but have not enjoyed more than the occasional scene of Passions in a couple of years. I'm glad that Passions is ending and even though it's foolish of me to hold out hope there is a remaining glimmer that since there is an end date that somehow JER will find a way to bring some kind of sensical closure to at least one or two of the SLs he has stretched way too thin over the years.
Best of luck to the cast, crew and remaining fans may there be better shows in the future for all of you!
My Sunday evening viewing this season is on CBS's Cold Case. I think it is a really great show that sometimes leaves me in tears, which is a hard thing to do.
More recently this season former soap stars have been in a number of episodes.Justin Bruening (ex-Jamie AMC), Michael B Jordan (ex-Reggie AMC) and Tuc Watkins (ex-David OLTL) were all on episodes that if I remember correctly aired in consecutive Sundays. Next week's episode (11/25) Justin Hartley (ex-Fox Passions) is going to be on.
I am so thrilled to see Justin on something I watch. He was fabulous to watch on Passions and really hated when he left, but alas I am over it. lol
No Brothers & Sisters tonight though.
I also watch Nip/Tuck on Tuesday's and Women's Murder Club on Fridays.
Obviously my life is not to exciting now, I was just thrilled to see the promo and had to share it with others.

ITS NOT REAL.... PURE FICTION
I must say that the very last episode I will ever see of Passions was both shocking and predictable... So, I'm breaking up this last entry into two categories: "What was awesome" and "What terribly stunk."
- Kay/Tabitha/Endora/Miguel
The bad - I must confess that I kind of zoned out during the magic zapping and the demons and whatnot. I was seriously getting tired of the "Save Endora from the demon kitty" routine.
The good - Miguel learns that Kay and Tabitha are witches! So, how will Kay be redeemed in Miguel's eyes now? What's to stop Miguel from either slipping or purposely outing the resident witches of Harmony? And, how will he feel when he realizes that Kay used magic on him the night Endora was conceived?
The bad - Endora is sucessfully pulled into the basement by the darkside. Boo! This is one character that does not need to be written away.
The good - Miguel is sent to another dimension. Can we leave him there?
- Esmé/Fox
The bad - Fox palavers to Esmé about she's THE ONE, not Kay. Okay, what is up with changing Fox into a one-woman kind of guy? When they first introduced him, he was supposedly a chronic womanizer. Then, he "changed his ways" for his "one true love" Whitney. Then, when she revealed her baby was actually Chad's son, he briefly went after Theresa. THEN, he fell into Kay, "his one true love" and practically did everything in his power to keep her from Miguel. So, why would his newest lady "love" be any different. I think Fox could have been such a wonderfully bad villan if the writers had not made him so stoic at first with Whitney then wishy washy with the Kay fiasco.
The bad - We were forced to see some of Fox and Esmé's love scenes. Yuck.
The good - Someone was spying on the happy couple... and drama ensues.
The bad - Fox is offed by the mystery voyeur, with no possibility of a resurection in the future.
The bad - The shooter didn't shoot Esmé too. Darn. I would have rather they shot her instead of Fox. And, why does no one ever lock a door in Harmony? Is there a locksmith shortage?
The good - Fox's death came out of nowhere. Who would want him dead? I think it was Vicky who did the deed though. After all, she's the creepy one who said Fox reminded her of her father. So, maybe she has some "father" issues since hers supposedly killed her mom. Another theory I have is that maybe since Vicky overheard Esmé telling Fox that Vicky's mom's death was Esmé's fault, Vicky only felt right by evening the score and taking away someone who was dear to Esmé. But, I would also not be surprised if Vicky was the one who killed both of her parents. Maybe she wanted Aunt Esmé all to herself... this is Passions, after all.
- Vincent/Valerie/Eve
The bad - In a move of predictability, Vincent and Valerie are one in the same. Yawn. So, that means that Vincent slept with his half-uncle (Chad), his father (Julian), and his half-sister (Fancy). EWW!!!
The bad - The Vincent/Valerie arguing scenes were so stupid. Yes, we get that Vincent is a pyscho. Enough already!
The bad - Drunk Eve pays a visit to "Valerie" and does not catch on that Val is a little bit too in love with the deceased Chad. And, watching Eve get completely sloshed in earlier episodes was not a fun matter either.
The good - Since Vincent's alive will he go after his mean Grandfather who wanted him dead and who killed Chad, Spike who tried to kill him, Sheridan who let him fall to his supposed death, or Mommy and Daddy who did not protect him?
- Spike/Sheridan
The good - A very determined Sheridan manhandles Spike and demands he show her proof that her Marty is alive. I am sure some people don't like the new "crazy" Sheridan, but I am just glad that there's finally another "evil-doer" in Harmony besides Alistair.
The bad - It took forever for Spike to prove to Sheridan that the video feed was live and not recorded.
The good - Man, has Marty aged! Hopefully, that means he and Beth will return on the show when it moves to DirecTV.
- Fancy/Pretty/Luis/Alistair
The good - Luis thinking that it was a good thing that Pretty spiked the lemonade! Ha, ha!
The bad - I hate to agree with Alistair, but Pretty's clinginess is getting on my last nerve too!
The bad - This "brain remote control" storyline is a snoozefest. Yawn.
- Sam/Ivy/Julian
The bad - After Ivy vents her frustrations out on Theresa and stomps away, Julian encourages Sam to chase after her. Darn. I so hoped there would be a Ivy and Julian reunion.
The good - When Sam goes after Ivy, Ivy says something like, "I knew I could count on you, Julian." Priceless! And, this is only more proof that Ivy and Julian would make a better team that Julian/Eve or Ivy/Sam.
The bad - Sam starts making out with Ivy. He sure forgives and forgets, eh?
- Ethan/Theresa/Gwen
The bad - Ethan comes out of his coma for good. I liked him better brain-dead and comatose rather than brain-dead and on two feet. Ha, ha! He and Theresa start thinking happy thoughts about their own happily ever afters. (As I mentioned in my last entry, isn't she still married to Alistair?)
The good - Ethan remembers that Theresa said Ethan had a son, and just at the right moment, in walks Gwen with her little bundle of joy. And, Gwen plops the tike in Ethan's lap and pronounces, "This is your son." What an awesome ending! Of course, I called it in my last entry, but still...
- Random Thoughts
Did I miss something? Did Simone leave already? I did not think she was moving to DirecTV.
Where, oh where, is Jessica? She could be in the hospital giving birth to a litter of puppies for all her family seems to care.
I seriously think Paloma and Noah decided to avoid the Harmony couple curse, and jetted off unnoticed to Vegas to get married.
Showing 1 - 5. [ Next ]
