Last Saturday we drove a couple hours to Oregon and bought a puppy at a rescue shelter. We named him "Skittles" he is a chihuahua and terrier mix. He's 3 months old and weighs about 5 1/2 pounds right now. I'm hoping he'll be between 7 and 10 pounds when he's grown. We lost a dog that we loved a lot last December. We're not trying to "replace" that dog but we've had little dogs in the house for 21 years and I missed having a small dog around. I wanted something that wouldn't remind me of our last two poodles and wouldn't require regular trips to the groomer, like the poodles. Our local humane shelter didn't have any young, small dogs and I contacted a few local rescue shelters and they wouldn't talk to me over the phone (then why put your phone # on the web-site?!) they wanted me to e-mail them. Only one of the ones I contacted e-mailed me back, so off to Oregon we went. This little guy is full of energy and hilarious! I hope he will be smart and easy to house train. Keep your fingers crossed for us, okay?!
I didn't think we would get another small dog for a really long time, losing them is so difficult. But then I thought that if we only ever worried about that part of having a pet then we'd never have another pet, ever. Hopefully this will all go well!
Oh yeah, the cats are really mad!
