Tech High School

Lnight my dad and I went to an open house at Tech High School, my new school starting next fall.  It looks sooooo nice!  It has about 100 computers, 25,000 books, and it's a very diverse school, which I am all for.  The classes I will be taking next year are Algebra, Language Arts 9, Earth Science, Geography, Spanish, Choir, and PhyEd.  The last day of my 8th grade year is on June 6th and after the summer's over (and it will go by fast), I will be a Freshman at Tech, which I am excited about!  High School sounds like a lot of fun.  There are 3 dances a year: Homecoming, Winter, and the Prom.  I have a few crushes, so maybe I will be able to get a dance partner!!!!

America's gun laws
Ok, so I told myself I would try not to talk about politics in my blog but I guess this time I am making an exception.  I just got home from my best friend's house where we got into a political arguement.  I guess this isn't surprising because we have very different beliefs, their family is very conservative and I am not.  I love them to death but we don't agree on all that much except for a few things.  Anyway, Virginia Tech came up and with that came the discussion about gun laws.  My friends feel that if everyone were allowed to carry a gun then this disturbed young man wouldn't have killed so many because they would have shot him before he could finish what he started.  I thought this was crazy and immediately got into a heated debate over the issue.  I have always believed we do not have strict enough gun laws.  I just looked up statistics that showed the United States in the fourth country in the world with the highest amount of deaths caused by guns.  The deaths per capita by guns per 1000 people is a lot higher than countries like Great Britain and Switzerland who have stricter gun laws than the United States.  I didn't understand the arguement in order to stop violence we need to retaliate with violence.  Lets all carry guns with us wherever we go and when we someone hurting another lets pull out our weapons and shoot.  This doesn't make any sense to me.  Also, you can't even prove that if a lot of those students had guns that it would end with only the shooter dead.  People shooting guns everywhere coming every direction is a recipe for disaster, imo.  They could have accidently killed the students they were trying to protect.  Anyway, you don't have to agree with me, I respect everyone's opinions.  I just needed to get this off my chest.

Finally
Well, I know I haven't updated my blog in a while but I've just been sooo busy! I finally had a day off of work so I got a chance to watch my soaps today!! Well, Days is Days lol. I love this show to death and I can't wait for Tony and my main man Bart to come back! I even marked my calendar and everything! Also, Addriene is almost on our screens just another week or so!! I'm so excited! Anyway, I heard Willow is leaving! I don't like the character but who is going to be the bad girl now? Chelsea again? This whole Sami/Lucas/EJ thing is kinda boring or well stupid in other words. But enough about that, GH is just as bad. Carly makes me mad, can't stand her. When is Sam and Lucky going to find out the truth? Why can't Elizabeth and Jason just be together already (tomorrow is an important day for Liason fans, Liz tells Jason she loves him) And this whole Sam hero story has to GO! I actually fell asleep watching Amelia and Sam talk it was that boring. Anyway, Greys Anatomy is a new episode tonight!!! woohoo! And Sanjaya (don't know how to spell his name) went home!!! I was sooo happy last night. On to a sad note, I'm thinking and praying for all of the VT students and families. Last summer I was in Blacksburg, VA and it was a really nice town with uber nice people. My hearts go out to them. It just reminds me that this could happen to anyone. When I was in high school, we had a bomb scare and that was really scary, I just can't imagine going through an ordeal like this one. Well, I have to work tomorrow and I have school and I dunno what the weekend holds for me since my manager hasn't given me my schedule yet, hopefully I will be off (yeah right) Well, I'm going pop some popcorn and get ready for Christina and Burke to heat up my tv screen. Good night!

B&B cut scene after VA Tech Tragedy
B&B was Pre-empted yesterday because of the VA Tech shootings.  On that show, Shane pulled out a gun on Ridge, later it was re-edited and shown again.  This is not the first time that soaps alterted their storylines after a tragedy like this.  After 9/11, many soaps altered their storylines and tone down the violence for a while.  The questions is, Is it right for soaps to re-edited or scrapped storylines when national tragedies like this happen?
