Y&R un-recasts the role of Noah Newman

The Young and the Restless confirms that it will be bringing back a familiar face -- but not in a new role. Kevin G. Schmidt will reprise the role of Noah Newman beginning in April.

A series of cryptic messages on Twitter seemed to hint that there is a casting change coming to The Young and the Restless. Through a series of reasoned deductions, it appeared that the CBS soap was in the process of "un-recasting" the role of Noah Newman. Now, a show spokesperson confirms that Kevin G. Schmidt will reprise the role of Noah beginning next month.

Earlier this week, TVGuide Canada columnist Nelson Branco posted a blind item that had Y&R fans talking. "Which Y&R actor has been recast with one of its original portrayers?" Branco wrote. Most fans focused on the "one of its original portrayers" portion of the teaser.

In September 2010, Luke Kleintank was hired to take over the role of Noah Newman. At that time, Noah had been off-screen for seven months. The announcement that a new Noah would be headed to town caught not only viewers by surprise, but also the actor who previously played the role. Kevin G. Schmidt informed his followers on Twitter that he'd been informed that he was no longer needed on Y&R.

"I have not [been] asked to return as Noah Newman," the actor wrote in July 2010.

Schmidt was not the "original" Noah -- the role was first played by infant twins in 1997 -- but the actor had appeared as Noah from mid-2008 through his final airdate in early 2010.

In the days leading up to Branco's mystery gossip, Schmidt took to his Facebook account.

"Spent this morning in a familiar place my friends! Felt nice to be visiting," Schmidt posted. "More details to come!"

A Y&R spokeperson now confirms that Schmidt will first appear as Noah beginning April 14.
